What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a form of guided meditation which leads to a meaningful interaction between the client and hypnotist. By being attentive and receptive to each other, the client will more easily follow instructions, and become highly responsive to suggestions to bring about a higher level of well-being.
Hypnosis refers to a state or condition in which the client becomes highly responsive to suggestions. They may hear, see, feel, smell or taste in accordance with the suggestions given.
It is in these highly responsive states that the client is most receptive to making the changes they are looking for, whether it's self improvement, stress management, sports enrichment, and so much more.
If it is your desire, we can also help you experience past life regression.
Joan Veldman, CH
NGH Certified Hypnotist
Hello everyone! My background is in Office Management, but I've had a keen interest in all things theatre, as well as in music. I truly believe those two passions have served me well during my training as a hypnotist.
As an actor, director and playwright, I've been able to delve into the thought processes of the characters in a script, and discover what a character might be thinking and why or how they respond the way they do. Much the same with hypnotism, but with the added benefit that you will be able to receive suggestions that will allow you to make the changes you desire.
Music, too, can play an important part in making positive changes in your life. It is a universal language. It can bring about a wide range of emotions, but focusing on music that brings you joy, calm, and serenity can enhance the positive changes you are working towards.
I know what a powerful tool hypnosis can be in helping people reach their goals.
And you can reach your goals too. Book an appointment today.

Fears / Phobias
It is not uncommon to hear the lack of awareness surrounding hypnotherapy. Most of this is derived from TV shows, movies, and often stage hypnosis. And while the stage version of hypnotism is extremely entertaining and comedic, it is not hypnotherapy.:
Loss of Consciousness
This could not be further from the truth. In order to have a successful hypnotherapy session, the client must be able to follow instructions, and FOCUS on what the hypnotist is saying. This is carried throughout the session, so in truth, the client will be even more focused during hypnosis than before.
Surrender of Will
Again, there is a misunderstanding about this. The client does not surrender himself to the hypnotist, nor "submit to his/her power". The client has complete control at all times - can talk, move, hear... even get up and leave if that is what they wish. The client is capable of making decisions at all times.
Weak Minded or Gullible
Some believe that only people with these traits can be hypnotized. The truth is, because hypnosis requires concentration, the best clients are actually the more intelligent of the population.
Rest assured... you will not say, or do, anything while under hypnosis that you would not normally say or do. As mentioned above, you will hear and remember everything that happens during the session. And so, if you are aware of everything while in hypnosis, revealing information you don't want made public would surely not happen.
This is not an uncommon concern regarding hypnosis, believe it or not. Some people are hesitant because of worries that something will happen to the hypnotist, and they will be "stuck in hypnosis" forever. This is an impossibility. Being in hypnosis feels like you're in a daydream, and if something untimely or unforeseen should happen to the hypnotist, then you would either just fall asleep and have a pleasant nap, or hunger and/or bathroom needs would emerge you.

I cannot believe how much my life has changed since meeting Joan! I've suffered from sporadic bouts of anxiety most of my adult life, but this past year it was a constant daily companion (I didn't even want to leave the house). I hate taking any kinds of drugs and was searching for an
alternative when a friend recommended Joan. After just one session, I am so much calmer it's almost unbelievable. I recently made it through a CT scan involving dye injection (which historically has never gone well) without taking Lorazepam and I can finally think about our upcoming 17
hour flight to Singapore without freaking out. Results have been so outstanding my husband will be making an appointment for weight loss.

After my first session with Joan of Tranquil Tones, for managing stress, I am now sleeping soundly but yet aware of things happening (like our son coming home from a party, etc.). I was only getting 1-2 good nights/week and then I found Joan! I am now getting 6-7 good nights/week. I had lost my ability to handle stress very well, but now I am able to handle the stressful situations that have been going on in my family for months and not biting someone’s head off.
Just give Joan a try—what can you lose???
My second session dealt with healthy eating/losing weight. This is a bit slower process on my part but I am working on it.

My session with Joan was amazing! I was so relaxed and yet never lost the feeling of having control. I look forward to more sessions with Joan – her love of helping others definitely shines through her recent find of hypnosis.

At first, I was skeptical and curious at the same time. I didn’t know what to expect but I let myself go and take in the experience.
While I was being hypnotized, I felt very calm and safe. I felt like I was in my own world exploring nature and the freedom around me. As you spoke to me, I deepened my thoughts. I felt like my legs were floating which only tells me I was that relaxed and in a great state!
When I came back, I felt extremely calm and relaxed. I feel like my mind was completely refreshed!

Skeptical , that was me. I doubted that I could be hypnotized but was sure willing to try. When trying to explain the experience, the word that comes to mind is relaxed. I had no other feelings other than complete relaxation. The first words out of my mouth when Joan said the procedure took about 15 minutes, was “Boy that was weird” because I said it was about 3 minutes. This first experience only wanted me to try again, but this time I had a purpose. Being the sweetness Queen of the family, I asked Joan if she could convince me to eat sweet desserts only once a week. Well, so far so good. I can walk by the cookie jar without taking one, not like the two I would take before. I can hear Joan’s voice encouraging me (which sometimes is a pain) but so far so good. I now look ahead planning which day I can have that dessert and look forward to losing that pound per week and a life of well-being.
Yes, there is still skepticism as I find myself asking how long will this last, but I sure am willing to try again if needed.

Recently, I reached out to Joan to undergo hypnosis to help me with my long-standing anxiety of being a passenger in a car. Joan’s expertise provided me with a safe and calm experience where I concluded with much less fear and anxiety towards being a passenger. I feel less hesitant to accept invitations to social events since Joan’s work with me.

So I was pretty skeptical and quite sure that hypnosis wouldn’t work on me. I’d always envisioned someone hopping around and quacking like a duck! Joan reassured me that wouldn’t happen. Lol. It was a very relaxing process and I felt great afterwards! Forget any preconceived notions that you have and spend some time with Joan. You definitely won’t regret it!
